Will young people take over trail running and accelerate its professionalization?
Between statistics, the terrain, and ambitions, we discuss with Théo Detienne (winner of the 90km Mont-Blanc race, Brooks athlete, and one of the most prominent figures in French trail running) and his wife Clara Detienne (trail runner and ultra-distance finisher) a rapidly growing phenomenon: for the past few years, trail running has no longer been perceived as a "sport for old people."
Even better, it is increasingly appealing to new generations, driven in particular by social media, which is helping to make the discipline more visible, more accessible, and gradually reshaping its conventions.
In this episode of Safe Pace, in partnership with Brooks, which has launched an academy to help young athletes turn professional, our two guests share their experiences as young trail runners, their perspective on a rapidly evolving sport, and the obstacles this new generation may encounter in training, progressing, and finding their place.
With them, we explore a fundamental shift transforming the face of trail running, from the rise of women's participation to the growing dream of turning professional.
On the agenda:
• A sport that's rejuvenating: who are the new trail runners?
• The increasing presence of young women on the starting line.
• Can trail running meet the expectations of the new generation?
• Are you really more efficient at trail running when you're young?
• The importance of building your progression as long distances become increasingly prominent in races.
• Becoming a professional trail runner: the new El Dorado? The Brooks Trail Academy and the initiatives emerging to support young talent.
• Théo's advice for those who dream of reaching the elite level.
