A little late, but better late than never. At the intro, I did say Napoleon instead of Nelson and that is my fault. Slip of the tongue and I did watch another Napoleonic Wars vid before this one so Napoleon kind of naturally came out. Hope you still enjoy the vid!

"England confides (expects) that every man will do his duty" is still a well known and respected phrase today. From a Brit.

Admiral Lord Nelson, the greatest Naval Commander to have ever lived, truly well beyond his time.

the sights and sounds of these battles at sea must have been an incredible spectacle

Nelson. ‘I have a plan. Attack.’

HMS Victory, I stood on her decks not one week ago. She is still a commissioned ship and her current CO started in 2025. It has a life and a body of its own that embraces so much history, so many lives. Thankyou fora wonderful reaction and your strategies & perspective. 🙂❣️

Sailors are reputed to have drunk from the barrel of brandy that Nelson's body was brought home in.
'Tapping the Admiral'

After austerlitz, you are getting into real prime time of the series, buckle up

The coffin was made for him in 1798 after the Nile, and he requested it was to be used if he were to die.

At least when you're in the dirt, you're in somewhat control of your own fate.

Vice Admiral Calder was court marshalled at his own request at which he was cleared of cowardice.

The second time in history by naval warfare the world could of been very much different but the British Navy said hold my beer.

It's easy to have awareness of the death of Nelson, but his tactics and philosophy of how to fight his ships are something that you should have studies at Navy College

If you think Nelson's coffin is wild, you're going to love the story of where we get the bronze for our highest military honour, the Victoria Cross. I would also highly recommend looking into the story of the Unknown Soldier.

There's a great anecdote about Cuthbert Collingwood Nelson's 2nd in command. He was from a humble background in the North East of England but the Royal Navy was as close as you got to a meritocracy at the time and he became an Admiral.

The Battle of the English Channel against the Spanish Armada ensured Britain it’s survival.

The Battle of Trafalgar secured Britain its empire

I live up the road from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. Very cool place and being to walk on the Victory is the icing on the cake.

nelson was also very sea sick believe it or not, what a legend

I recently saw Turner’s The Fighting Temeraire and never knew the Temeraire’s history and the role it played in the battle of Trafalgar.  So interesting to watch…must go and see HMS Victory now.  I also need to put Nelson’s tomb in St Paul’s on my visit list
