Dark Heresy Is More Than Just Rogue Trader Again - Warhammer 40k Dark Heresy Beta Impressions

Warhammer 40k Dark Heresy isn't out just yet, but the closed beta is still showing off a good amount of Act One. Though it doesn't have the personal choice of a Disco-like one, the number of momentary alignment choices makes it an interesting and customisable experience.

After Owlcat's success with Rogue Trader, there wasn't much doubt that Dark Heresy would be good, but let's see just how it's shaping up and find out if there's any difference at all.

damn, I forgot to play Warhammer 1-39999

Abelard, kindly summarize this video for me. Learning things is beneath a Rogue Trader like me.

side thing but the Imperium does not stretch across multiple galaxies, the entire setting of 40K takes place in the milky way galaxy, the Imperium is spread across multiple solar systems

Owlcat is an incredible studio.

Rogue Trader is so good I honestly wouldn't complain much if it was more of the same but new content. I'm on my third run finally doing heretical, I wanted to wait for the last DLC but I got hooked on the world again from other media.

It was an absolute fantastic decision from owlcat to set the next game inside the inquisition. The inquisition is even more horrifying and evil than the empire as a whole. There's so much more nuance in decision making as an inquisitor. I absolutely recommend the Eisenhorn books. They are also interesting for people who want to get into the lore because they are more thriller than lore book so you won't get bored.

Currently waiting for the processional of the damned to come out to start my second Rogue Trader playthrough!

And I’m excitedly waiting to see Dark Heresy come out!

What I’m REALLY hoping for, however, is to see a Black Crusade Owlcat release!

Slight disagreement on alignments, someone who is mildly in one of the alignments wouldn't be considered too heretical/out there by most inquisitors.

The xenos friendly/wanting to understand them is seen as sensible by most but in its excess involves outright xeno heresy by using their tech, methods or even allowing them to run rampant such as the inquisitor that kept a large group of Kroot that he let eat other people or dead inquisitors.

Xanthites are similarly sensible as they understand the immaterium but they veer into heresy by their own hubris, from consorting with unsanctioned psykers and even daemons to using their friend's corpse as a daemonhost.

The puritan is one who wishes to avoid the folly of the prior two but in excess will become intollerant of even sanctioned psykers, astropaths or navogators. In their zeal they forsake the methods they actually need and are difficult for most other inquisitors to work with.

with the investigations thing, i think some of the issues tie into the universe and one of the key points of the game, the truth doesnt matter really espcially when its inconvient and innocence doesnt mean a thing. like the whole case is basicaly all about "yeah it wasnt anyone fault but we need someone to take the fall so pick and see who YOU think deserves it more".

Excellent vid. Been wanting some exposure to what I'm in for with my first playthrough of RT, without spoiling stuff, which most vids beside character ceeation give. Came for the adjacent info, stayed for the articulate entertainment. Subbed.

Quality video. Like your style and analysis.

aww, I really liked the granular customisation in Rogue Trader, min/maxing my builds and trivialising the enemies and bosses was consistently satisfying. The skill checks never bothered me in Rogue Trader but then I never really thought about them either, I barely ever failed any and the few I did had no meaningful short term or long term impact on the game or narrative, so yeah could probably be better.
I'm sure I'll still get plenty of enjoyment from Dark Heresy once it fully releases.

Really nice review. Hope your channel gets more views.

I wasn’t going to read the Eisenhorn omnibus any time soon… buuuut, I think I might have to after this review.

As someone who sucks in detective work in games I do love that you can stumble upon the answers or just implicate suspects to further your own goals.
It makes it also feel somewhat realistic, since many investigations IRL depend on luck or suspects blowing their cover themselves.

Reminds me of the Void Ship DLC where it tries to appeal to your real world ethics, only to throw it all out the window by revealing Nemesite being a genestealer.

I can't wait 😢

On the difficulty Owlcat games tend to start off quite hard but then DLC's keep adding extra buffs to your characters such that the game ultimately ends up too easy.

I Just Need PT-BR subtitles in this game.

Sir not appearing in this Beta. I see what you did there. I think your breakdown seemed really fair. The overwhelming number of skills when you leveled up in Rogue Trader was definitely an issue for me. A little disappointed they haven't improved the inventory a bit more. Hoping they spend a good amount of time on the companions. Luckily Rogue Trader is a really strong base to work off so I'm confident this should be a good game.
