Glad to see my story made it onto the channel! I know some parts might be unclear, so if people have questions, ask away. ❤

title: Dungeon Master Won't Stop Killing Players, over 50 deaths

my brain: where does he get so many players?

@silverseer573 8 months ago (edited)

Elo's issue isn't that he's a powergamer, it's that he's a sadist. He wants control and to feed his ego, and he does that by bullying his players. That's why he can't have any of his players actually feel powerful, because to him, power is a zero-sum game and if they feel like they accomplish things and actually matter, it'll take away from his own sense of power and importance.

Gotta love someone who's desperate need to have even the slightest bit of power/"superiority" over literally anyone they can makes them the most pathetic waste of flesh imaginable...

The DMPC wasn't even just an OC, it was a self-insert.

the little moment about the sun being north reminds me of Avantris with bitsy just less funny "Well north is whichever way youre facing so"

"This DM won't stop killing players"

Durge... this isn't how you play this game...

This reminds me of the fact that my first ever DM for 3e was my stepfather. The man would blow his top if you actually figured out the most base puzzles from the premade module (I was like, 9 at the time and guessed a 'flip these switches up and down in sequence' puzzle) and he enjoyed killing us, but at least he would rewind time so we didn't have to go through making our own characters while we were still single digit in age.

Anyone remember that one Dexter's Laboratory episode, "D&D and Dee Dee," which starts out with Dexter DM'ing a DnD analogue and, being the insecure and ego-driven little poop he often is, keeps trying to stomp on his (actually pretty skilled and clever) players, even going so far as to fudge dice rolls in his favor?

Yeah, this knucklehead's giving off a lot of the same energy. What a child...

if I was in this situation, I would make my next character the twin brother/sister of my past character, a clone, a reincarnation, etc, I'm not wasting 2hrs creating a character to a guy that's clearly on a power trip, he either kicks me out of the game or has to deal with my passive-agresiveness haha

@zambsDGOW 8 months ago

nah this guy is mental, he would just try to cheat when he felt like he was "losing"

@likky1 8 months ago (edited)

To me this sounds like elo expected everyone to become a mixmaxer
And he definitely played as dm vs players

Okay finished the video now

The elo guy doesn’t realize that winning encounters as a dungeon master is extremely easy, like you have nothing you can’t do

"Dungeon Master Won't Stop Killing Players, over 50 deaths"

Cotton Hill, is that you?

I've had a boss enemy go down a little too fast, so I made him a servant to this ancient demon thing, revived him, buffed him a bit, made him do some seemingly op stuff that did normal damage, annoy the players a bit, and get killed with more flaire. New mystery for them, satisfying end to a plot line, players never even knew, but most importantly, they had fun.
Then I sent a magic t-rex at them.

@1goofydude 8 months ago

This is were i would use the endless swarm of twin brothers tactic. Character's name is Bill, character dies, their identical twin who happens to be the same class and has the same back story named Will approaches. He dies, ope here's there identical twin brother Dill, then, Phil, then Gill, and so forth forever.

Good on the players for figuring out the game relatively quickly, even if the DM ended up being trash. I remember hearing a story where the OP kept coming up with original thought-out character concepts just for them to get killed off quickly and that felt painful to me. If your DM is just going to throw lazy difficulty at you, the right move is to respond with lazy online builds. (Or just don't play with that guy, but what are we, a bunch of mentally healthy adults?)

@thequietestengine 8 months ago

15:38 Nah, if you let them roll for it, then it's an encounter they can succeed. Deciding to just do THAT move instead like it's the DM vs the players? I'd walk out then and there.
