As I was about to say goodbye, Uli opened his eyes one last time and reached out his arms to me. That hug was our final farewell. I felt it in that moment.
Welcome to another episode of Grief. Really?
I'm Tom – the Grief Coach, funeral director, author, and mental trainer. In this episode, I'll tell you about my friend Uli, whom I accompanied during his final weeks.
Today I'll explain:
What I mean by "gradual farewell." Relatives can begin to grieve while their loved one is still alive.
Why I encourage you to go and talk to them one last time, despite your fear. Even wishes for the funeral service can be discussed, as long as a response is possible.
Why you shouldn't be ashamed of feeling relieved after prolonged suffering. It's perfectly acceptable to feel relief alongside pain and grief.
If you are currently supporting someone through this difficult time, I wish you courage for the conversations that are still possible. At your own pace.
