Living in Valencia, Spain looks very different once the move is over and everyday life begins. Today I'm taking you on a ride through Valencia while talking about what our life here actually looks like.
I start in our neighborhood of Cabanyal, grab a Valenbisi, and ride toward the City of Arts and Sciences while answering some of the questions you've been leaving in the comments.
We talk about what it's really like living in Cabanyal, including the beautiful tiled houses, being about five minutes from the Mediterranean, and some of the less glamorous realities like cockroaches, rats, fireworks, trash and the occasional unwanted gift somebody's dog leaves outside your front door.
I also get into something that matters a lot to us: living in Valencia with three dogs and a cat. That includes public transport, finding the right veterinarian and groomer, RIVIA registration, European pet passports and what some of that has actually cost us.
Then there's our own healthcare experience. I explain the padrón, getting into the Valencian public healthcare system, receiving our SIP cards, being assigned a doctor, how appointments work at our local health center and my experience being sent elsewhere for medical imaging.
And because everyday life eventually comes down to money, I share some of our actual expenses: €1,200 rent in Cabanyal, electricity, water, DIGI internet and mobile service, groceries, Mercadona, Mercado del Cabanyal and why Valenbisi has become one of my favorite ways to get around Valencia.
This isn't a relocation brochure. It's simply what Valencia looks like once it becomes the place where you actually live.
If there's a Valencia neighborhood you'd like me to walk next, leave it in the comments. I'm planning to work my way through all 19 districts.
