The absolute master of observational comedy. Genius is an overused word, but he was one.

"and the third hand is the second hand."
I CANT THIS IS GOLD

the 100 people who disliked this clip can't tell the time

As a primary school teacher I can relate to this so much!!! 🤣Teaching time is so difficult.

"If someone asked you what time it was and you didn't know you would feel stupid!"
"Well why doesn't he feel stupid? He doesn't know the time either."
Hilarious, and a typical answer you would get too! xD

The way he constructed his jokes was pure genius.

The way he voices the innocent child is masterful :O

Dave was well ahead of his time. A comedy genuis. Rip Dave very sadly missed

This is probably the best DA sketch ever, absolutely fine tuned for total frustration and confusion. Truly a master at work. Miss him even decades later.

With all the repeats on TV why has Dave Allan's shows not been repeated. Pure genius😄

I watched these with my parents, I think it was Saturday night viewing.
Not only has this stood the test of time, but it is clean funny comedy unlike so much comedy today.
Like a lot of people here I watched this when it was new on 1 of 3 channels, so much simpler back then.

Comedy Gold the way Dave goes between adult and child in this sketch is outstanding.

And the third hand is the second hand...I died.

The third hand is the second hand genius

i am in my 50s and can remember my father teaching me to tell the time. We also made a cardboard clock together.  NICE memory

My parents gave up trying to teach me how to tell the time on a standard clock and bought me a digital watch. 😂 My brother told me to watch "Playschool" which was for nursery aged kids and I learned to tell the time on a standard clock. I was 10 years old at the time. 😂

...the third hand is the second...

Absolute masterpiece

The most genius sketch ever at illustrating both the absurdities of the English language, and understanding and relating so lovingly to the mind of any young child. I wish I was a child of Ireland in many ways - they just seem to 'get it' all so well and have a laugh at the same time..

You can't make this stuff up, seriously... RIP Dave allen.

Dave Allen was my fathers first cousin, he was a brilliant comedian
