Any law system that supports beating a confession out of someone is about as bad as criminals.

The sloppy police work ruined Dr Shepherd's life.

His estate even sued for wrongful imprisonment and lost. Dude got railroaded for over ten years and the justice system ignored everything.

Can you imagine the worst thing to happen to you in your entire life...being attacked and losing your spouse... and YOU get blamed for it?
I just can't fathom how awful that would be.

These old cases just show that justice in America has always been a joke.

The police in shepherd's case were lazy. They didn't want to do their job so they sent an innocent man to prison and ruined his life. They didn't even think about poor Sam who had already lost his mother, just rushed to send his father to prison. They ruined his family. They are just as cruel as the real killer.

Statistical probability should not be an argument for conviction, nor is it a particularly credible argument when the police claim that beating or stabbing someone was "personal." The same picture often emerges after the actions of a psychopath.

We know someone who murders another person is evil. But what about those who, with their authority, decide not to honestly investigate a murder, instead blaming someone, without evidence? That innocent person's life is wrecked, as he spends a decade behind bars, and later dies an early death. This inconceivable lack of humanity by those involved in the Shepherd case ranks right down there with the evil of the murderer.
And I believe this sort of thing ~~still~~ happens today...due to laziness, and/or pressure to 'close the case'.
God help the innocent man or woman; those unjustly behind bars.

Fun fact: The case of Walter Scott (Notheis) is one of life imitating art. His big break was with Bob Kuben and The In-Men, who’s hit song The Cheater (about a guy who steals his girlfriend) went to number 12 on the Billboard chart in 1966. Little did Walter know that less than two decades later, he’d be not only a cheater himself but also the victim of another cheater… his own wife, who had her lover (Jim Williams) kill him and his own wife so they could start a life together.

Cleveland - 1954- A woman, named Marilyn, wife of Dr Sam Shepherd was found killed in her home and her husband was convicted but then another murder and years passed. Only in 1998 the case was resolved.
