I go WOW ! Finally got to see this whole game ! Thank you a lot for showing this game !   I was 15 years old seeing the championship game . 58 now and finally got to seeing this game !  😎👍🏀

This is the first game I can remember watching as a kid ..

UNLV c/o ‘95

Tarkanian and Smith. Two of the best ever to do it!! Rest easy Coaches.

The turning point came after about two minutes had elapsed in the second half: Moffet suffers broken nose from teammate's elbow; Theus misses rather easy shot after offensive rebound; and O'Koren makes three-point play.  And then Ford starts to score.

Both teams were loaded--All Americans, future NBA all-stars.

Tom LaGarde, played at the high school down the street from me, Catholic Central in Detroit, that later became the original Renaissance High School in Detroit.

It's hilarious how Kurt Gowdy declared that Carolina was in the "four corners" offense every time Carolina slowed the pace or made a pass back to Ford, Kuester, or Davis. Carolina didn't really go into the four corners until three minutes left to play.

Whenever you see Curt Gowdy, later Dick Enberg, you know it’s a major sports event on NBC.

This game was the first time I saw the perspective from the floor-level camera in the corner of the court. Players would shoot long range jump shots from the baseline and it looked as if the ball was dropping into the hoop directly from outer space.

How many SMITHS did UNLV have?

The game we couldn’t win against the team that couldn’t lose. Starter Tom LaGarde out with injury. Walter Davis held together with fresh steel pins. But we had Phil Ford. Even playing hurt, Ford was a closer.

Sound off on TV and Woody on the radio.

One of my favorite commentators Curt Gowdy!

UNLV averaged 109 pts per game the season before, and 106 for this season ('76-'77), all without a three pt. line and a shot clock. UNLV wins this game going away with both in play) Never was a team like this and there will never be. Conservatively estimated, the previously mentioned regular season scoring numbers for the two seasons mentioned, IF there was a three point line UNLV averages 117 pts a game and 114 respectively. NC turned the ball over thirty times.

Thanks

That was back when you could turn the sound down on your TV and listen to Woody Durham because there was no sync required.  Didn’t have to hear Packer or Gowdy.

One of the best defensive performances ever.

Too bad UNCC lost in hail Mary pass to Marquette. UNCC vs UNC would have been epic game and I truly believe UNCC would have been national champions.

I hope y'all will reply to this when CBS got the rights to air the NCAA Tournament in 1981 Billy Packer came to CBS Sports

Eddie Owens

Once CBS took over the tourney from NBC and it went to 48 teams...It exploded to Domes for the Final Four. This game was at the Freaking Omni!!??😲

UNLV would have won the game if the 3 point shot was allowed.
