Storm chaser here. We don’t just chase for the rush. We chase to report the tornado to the authorities so that the warning can get out. We also are prepared to abandon the chase and become first responders, search and rescue and assist in immediate first aid before the professionals arrive. We volunteer our time and resources to serve our communities.

22:30 A general rule of thumb with tornadoes is if it looks like it's not moving either to the left or right then more than likely it's moving toward you.

Storm chasers don't do it only for the adrenaline rush, they also collect data that is useful for understand how tornadoes behave .

In 1998 I was a US Navy recruiter in Council Bluffs Iowa, traveling to Harlan Iowa due stormy conditions and saw a tornado on the ground behind me about a mile away. It was gaining ground on me so I stopped and crawled into a drain pipe under the road. The tornado passed over the top and when I emerged my car was gone. It was found 1/2 mile away in the middle of a corn field. I was ok, dirty but ok. Never want to experience that again.

I live in Tornado alley in Huntsville Al and know an old lady that couldn’t leave her home so she sat in the recliner praying and the house was gone and she remained sitting in her chair unharmed!!! We pray and Praise for all the miracles we receive!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

I love how people rushed in to help that family! That's America!

Storm chasers are important for getting the kind of immediate data that only watching the formation of the tornados in-person can give. But seriously, they're their own special sort of insane. And yes, in tornado alley, all houses typically have a storm cellar of some kind, even if it's not a full basement.

I can’t explain to you the horror and hopelessness when you see a cloud heading to your house and it starts to rotate and point down. I still get anxious when I see dark clouds.

1:24 it’s very rare that (experienced) chasers are killed, but the El Reno tornado from 2013 was a rare occurrence in which multiple chasers were caught off guard and sadly passed away. It was such an unpredictable tornado and the largest on record

Your son is insanely smart. he asks the right questions.

As exampled in this video, Storm Chasers are more often than not the First Responders to a disaster. They are also usually the ones to call in to the Emergency Channels when the tornadoes first touch down and begin their path.

There is a tornado chaser that has a vehicle that is built with special equipment that can go inside a tornado it’s crazy to watch

Every tornado is different. Acts different. Scary and fascinating all at the same time. I’ve been within a mile of three different tornadoes here in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I thought it was exciting as a child. As an adult, I’m scared silly.

A well known storm chaser Tim Samaras and his son died in 2013 in Oklahoma El Reno tornado, along with another colleague. 😢. In 30 seconds it doubled in size and changed direction toward them. Sadly they could not outrun it. 😢

8:40 - "It wants to form so bad. . .". It's already fully formed! Once you see the rotation affecting things on the ground, a funnel cloud formally becomes a full fledged tornado. It doesn't matter if it's fully condensed from cloud to ground or not. In this case, not only is dirt being thrown about, but multiple "sub-vortices" are visible on the ground as well!

Tornado Alley - Real Time Tornado: Joplin, Missouri. This video brings home the experience of living through a tornado better than any other video I've seen. It is excellent.

I love that the storm chasers not only stopped to help but shared the donation info for the devastated family. ❤

I have been around tornados my whole life growing up in Missouri! That was some of the best footage I have ever seen of a tornado in my life. I'm 42-years-old, and use to chase storms my self back in the early 2000's. We where very stupid back then. We did it in a small Chevy S-10 pickup. The actions of that last tornado did something I have never seen before. That was wild, I wish I was there.

Storm chasers are professionals who collect data to help get better warning times out to the public live so it’s very up to date information. Over the decades these storm chasers have become very effective in helping the understanding of how tornadoes work. Usually the travel in huge packs of vehicles and are communicating information to eachother as they move around.
