This theme made illegal street racing feel underground and dangerous.
Never got that feeling again.

Early 2000s atmosphere.

To be a kid on a PS2 with a limited scope of the world, and this is all you are immersed in. The serious tone of being a street racer. What an illustration.

15 plus years later and still no game has ever given me that dark, mysterious yet exciting feel like MC2 did. This game will go down in history as a masterpiece.

Bought this game on a cold, rainy day. Hearing this music when it got dark and raining outside was absolute peak.

This period from the end of the 90s to the beginning of the 2000s was one of the most notable times in this regard, mysterious, industrial and electronic vibe.
Games like Midnight Club 2, GTA 3, FEAR, Metal Gear Solid 2, Halo, Max Payne, Deus EX... Films like: Fight Club, Matrix, Ghost In The Shell had this.

This game's music perfectly represents this vibe, and complementing it even further, the trip hop music genre is what best fits this.

I miss that mysterious vibe in entertainment in general in the late 90s and early 2000s...

This is probably the most mesmerizing menu theme ever. Nostalgia hits hard too

Probably the chillest main menu screen I've ever heard in a video game.

Damn this is timeless. I automatically got the visual of the menu screen in my head like it was yesterday. I was 21 at the time. 20yrs went by like a flash. Enjoy your youth and take full advantage of it youngins!

The cartoonish yet dark future vibe this game had is mesmerising. Ghost in the Shell x Gran Turismo vibes. I can't explain it but miss it terribly.

Rockstar smashed it with this one, they were so sick during the early 2000’s era.. i wish they kept Midnight Club going as a rival to NFS.

So simple yet so perfect. No racing game ever tops this. The feeling in the 2000s of turning this game on, no feeling can replicate it

20 year anniversary of this game. I still play it every now and then to scratch that nostalgic itch.

I never even played this game. I always heard my brother playing it and the tune was always so deep and dark in the right way. March of 2018 and I'm still listening.

Mauro Fiore was the lead designer of the game (who later got oscar for his cinematograpy work in Avatar) and Terry Donovan for the soundtracks (a founder member of rockstar games). Bless them they made a very unique experience.

Best menu design to this day, the music, the gui, the button sounds... I wish this style and flavour would come back in modern games

I wish they did a remake of this game. Quality like this is almost impossible to find now

The early 2000's was an odd time to say the least...

Best racing game ever

I’m not crying we’re all crying from this nostalgic menu song.
