Well, long time since I did a Trainz story. This one has been in the works since after I came back from my trip to the UK in April, and one I've really wanted to do. Neville is a character that also fascinates me, and I was fortunate enough to see his basis engine at York and really see the loco for myself.
The project started in March with the first writing of the story, with the final revisions being done in July, two months after filming had started. I had always wanted to do a story featuring Neville in a huge capacity, ever since his short speaking cameo in Gordon and Spencer. I knew if I did do a Neville story, I had to feature a dynamic between him and everyone's favorite Scottish twins. It just didn't make sense to pair him with anyone else.

Derek, Molly, Neville, heck, even Billy got some love from the fans.
These characters have so much going for them to write a story or create an arc for them.
I saw how fans made Derek more layered thanks to how he was in the episode he appeared in and the background behind his class.
Molly got a fan story that explains the context of why she pulls freight trains, and she's shy, only to help her break out of that thanks to someone's kind gesture by the end of it.
Here I see this with Neville by building his character around the background of his class and making him interesting, as in the main series, he was just awkward Neville and didn't get to speak in his episode other than being a concept about how you shouldn't judge a book by its cover and not to create a false narrative about someone you haven't gotten to know yourself.
This story went far beyond what I was expecting, you turned a story of Thomas not liking Neville for talking with diesels, to a story about the scottish twins learning that the Q1 is more than meets the eye. Such a strange character interaction combination, and I love it.
In all seriousness, what a fantastic story you made with Neville in it. Along with the Scottish twins as well.
It's great that fans help give characters something extra to their background or make an interpretation while the main show couldn't cause of merchandising and stuff. And giving them a big role in them.
Anyways well done on this story. Keep up the great work and take care.
