The 1980s gave us some of the biggest names in R&B, but behind the superstars were groups creating unforgettable music that has slowly disappeared from mainstream memory.

In this documentary, RnB BLUEPRINT revisits ten underrated R&B groups from the 1980s. From sophisticated British soul and quiet-storm harmonies to electro-funk, new jack swing, and emotional slow jams, these groups helped shape the decade’s sound.

We explore their career beginnings, breakthrough records, signature songs, chart success, production styles, industry challenges, and the reasons many of them became less visible over time.

These groups were not all commercial failures. Some had major hits, sold millions of records, and influenced artists who became much more famous. But history often remembers the songs while forgetting the groups that made them.

This is their story.
