At 64, Daniel Mercer expected to spend one quiet night in an isolated mountain cabin. By sunrise, the road was gone beneath deep snow — and a powerful winter storm was only beginning.

What started as a simple trip to inspect an old family cabin becomes six long days of isolation as heavy snow, dangerous winds and freezing temperatures cut Daniel off from the outside world.

His pickup is buried. Cell service becomes unreliable. The water system begins struggling against the cold. Firewood is limited, and every trip outside costs energy he may need later.

Instead of attempting a dangerous escape, Daniel begins treating the cabin like a system that has to survive with him.

He counts every piece of firewood. He reduces the space that needs heating. He stores water before the pipes can freeze completely. Food is rationed, emergency supplies are checked, and the old cabin is monitored as snow continues accumulating around it.

But surviving the storm isn't about one dramatic decision.

It's about dozens of small ones.

As the days pass, Daniel faces worsening weather, plumbing trouble, increasing snow load, dwindling supplies and the psychological pressure of watching the road disappear outside his window.

Then an old set of maintenance notes left behind in the cabin becomes unexpectedly important.

Can Daniel keep the cabin functioning until the mountain road finally opens again?
