Xhaka definitely had more than a “mini” resurgence at Arsenal. He was fantastic in his final two seasons, especially his last one. He certainly reached greater heights at Leverkusen, but his resurgence started long before he arrived.

Day 84 of asking for a video of the 7 greatest lower league players of all time, please 🙏

I remember far too many Real Madrid fans angry at the club because they thought Real should have flogged Benzema to Chelsea instead of Morata. I bet most of them obliterated that from memory

7 best late bloomers (Jamie Vardy, Ian Wright, Emiliano Martinez etc).
7 best teams to get relegated from a top flight when you consider the quality of the squad relative to the league (West Ham 2003, Newcastle 2016, Hibs 2014 etc).
Thanks again Alfie, big fan of your work.

Dembele going from injured every week to Ballondor winner is inspirational

Hold up. For Xhaka, you didn’t entirely highlight that his resurgence started at Arsenal with the arrival of Arteta. Arteta was key in getting the fans off his back and even coming around to love him to an extant. He was a vital piece in the midfield that helped Arsenal turn around from banter club to challengers.

For Granit Xhaka, I would like to add that he was always good in the national team because he had Freuler and Behrami next to him as destroyers

Day 118: 7 best female footballers of all time
Day 33: ranking every treble winning team

the Isco to Union Berlin deal collapsing was heartbreaking

21:56 this is my first time learning that Santiago Bernabéu was an actual person and not just a stadium

Feel Xhaka's last few seasons at Arsenal been a been a bit glossed over here. Hes resurgencestarted before hes move to Leverkusen. He had a fantastic final 2 seasons for the club, and the majority of fans were quite upset to see him sold. Arteta went above and beyond to get him to stay, seeing hes importaince to the team and what he could become in the right system. Steadily improved over Artetas reign and had a world class final season with us. Was one of our best players in the 22/23 and we were desperate to see him play alongside Rice. There was a feeling we owed him a throphy after what the fanbase put him through pre COVID.

So the FIFA essentially banned Puskas and his mates for 4 years, because they didn't want to return to Soviet Hungary? Sounds like FIFA didn't change that much over the years

15:28 - the biggest failed investment was a pig farm. “One day you wake up and realise you don’t care about pigs at all”, he said. So true Johan, so true.

I'll make a bold prediction: If you were to make the same video, or an updated version, two years from now the name Rasmus Højlund would be on the list

Must be depressing to have all the top comments be list requests lol

The greatest comeback in football was Ronaldo Nazario de Lima. Everyone thought he was finished at Inter, until he was healthy enough to make Scolari's Brazil squad, and Ronaldo scored 8 goals in the tournament and helped Brazil win the FIFA World Cup. Nothing says "I'm back" more than that.

7:15 - I don't know why but that "well" joke is funnier to me than "Ndidi" and "Whatsmore" xD

Henry - good at Monaco, bad at Juventus, good again at Arsenal and Barcelona

Kevin-Prince Boateng did this a few times

Dropped down to Portsmouth, and then singed for AC Milan
Then ended up at Las Palmas, before going to Barcelona

Surprised Nicky Barmby didn't get Hull City an obligatory mention! Paid off by Leeds, dropped into League One with his hometown club seemingly to play out the twilight of his career, inspired a second successive promotion, scored the quickest goal in club history (7 seconds), helped keep City in the Championship, integral part of a first ever promotion to the Premier League, scoring in both legs of the play-off semi-final, scored his first PL goal for his hometown club, scored in an FA Cup Quarter Final at Arsenal, helped the club stay up, then helped with another turnaround in the Championship and scored the winner in his last ever pro game before becoming the manager. What a turnaround.
