Scout: Sir the base appeares abandoned, security lockdown was engaged. The base computer is reporting biological contaminants of a hostile nature loose inside and gave us a full report on the goings on. Its my recommendation that this base be destroyed with the anti-matter warhead we got orbiting high above this base to prevent its contents from possibly getting out.

"Why don't we just... wait here for a little while. See what happens."

I breathe a sigh of relief. Peace at last. I have endured much to get here. Stormy podcasts and gale force classical music but now I've arrived here: the last place on earth. I barely even feel the icy cold on my nose. I will curl up here in my sleeping bag, and if the cold takes me in my sleep, at least you know, I found peace at last.

Me to my dentist...

"I am going to the North next week and I would like to change my fillings to porcelain before I make the trip."

First goddamn week of winter

Finally a wind that doesn't sound the same all the time. ❤  Would love to explore the place.

I remember my friend got "The Thing" on laser disc not long after it came out. I was around 12 years old. We turned his parents home into a hounted house for Halloween and recorded an assortment of howling winds and eerie sounds from the movie on a cassette tape and played them on a stereo. I took the cassette tape home that night and would play it every night when I went to bed. I'd pretend I was out in the arctic trapped in a cabin with the "Thing" lurking outside. 😄

Ah, Mt. Erebus Research Facility, good to be back home. Lights are still on, i see, the reactor still running. We should call the guys from Mt. Terror Basecamp, maybe they want to come for dinner and poker.

Wait what? What do you mean, you lost contact?

Have you ever watched season one of The Terror? This sort of reminds me of that. The utter desolation around you, biting cold, winds that suck the body heat right out of you, and no way of building a fire to keep warm. That something else might be out there hunting you becomes almost redundant.

Day 2:
"The days here seem awfully shorter than what I'm used to. I’ve begun counting the hours that pass by and since I awoke I’m counting 13. And a typical day, at least here, lasts… 15 minutes. I’ve also noticed that I can’t sleep, and that I don’t grow tired. This world never ceases to freak me out… What’s it doing to me? I’ve managed to gather up a few sticks and stones here and there and I've made some basic tools and a crude saw. I won’t be stuck here much longer, but something in my gut tells me that I shouldn’t leave."

"Each time I lay restless on the cold ground in my little hole at night, I can hear things outside. Sometimes it sounds like a groan, sometimes it’s the clattering of bones, sometimes it sounds like burrowing, and sometimes it sounds like stomping. It’s clear to me now that there’s something lurking on the surface at night as well as burrowing in the ground like a mole. Sounds like they’re big too…"

Radio chatter: Zzzzz....zzz-ello? Hello? Captain? Oh finally, someone! Deep breath This is Miller I uh...found a survivor, the base cook. The thing is uh...he's not letting me leave. Listen, I think there's something in here some kind of bio-contamination. He uh...wanted me to cut myself and drip my blood over the hot stove. He has a flamethrower with him so I did as he commanded and he's calmed down now. Anyway, did you find anything at Outpost 31? Over......zzzz.....WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S BEEN DESTROYED!?"

I live in a very snowy area ( Buffalo NY) When the white gets heavy and it gets late at night, I will play John Carpenters "the thing" every year. I have loved this movie since I was a kid and Palmers Transformation during the blood test scene has always stuck with me since I was little. Thank you!! This background music is perfect on those late snow nights!

I could be very wrong but the "wind" sounds very reminiscent of rhe sounds the thing makes in its spider creature dog form when it uses its tentacle tendrils to infect the dogs in the beginning of the movie. Even if not intentional i find it very cool

'I'm gonna hide this tape when I'm finished. If none of us make it, at least it will be some kind of record. Storm's been hitting us hard now for the past 48 hours. We still have nothing to go on. One other thing I think it rips through your clothes when it takes you over. Windows found some shredded long-johns but the name tag was missing. They could be anybody's. (Nobody... nobody trusts anybody now. We're all very tired.) There's nothing else I can do, just wait... R. J. MacReady, helicopter pilot, U.S. Outpost North 31."

“Finish doing what, doc?”
Doc: “Finish imitating these dogs!”

Mac said bring flamethrower Childs

I can feel the biting cold when I play this video on my tv screen. 🥶

If you think this is creepy you should see what they found in the ice a few miles away.

(It was the The Thing OST John Carpenter should have composed himself, though everyone understands that when you can get Ennio Morricone to score your movie you let him score your movie)

It really is The Thing, if you listen close you hear monsters lurking around

Start setting the thermite charges and rig the dynamite. Flamethrowers at the ready.
