What if a surname you see every day hid a story that spanned centuries?
For generations, some families have had to hide who they were, change their ways, and even transform their own identity to survive.
Centuries later, these names continue to circulate in Brazil.
They are on birth certificates, documents, schools, businesses, families, and even in WhatsApp groups—but almost no one imagines what might lie behind them.
In this video, we'll go back more than 500 years and follow a story that passes through Portugal, Spain, Pernambuco, the Inquisition, and one of the oldest Jewish communities in the Americas.
And there's an even more intriguing detail:
👉 some of the surnames involved are so common in Brazil that you probably know someone who carries one of them.
But does this mean there's a connection to Sephardic Jews?
The answer is much more complex than it seems.
Watch until the end and discover which names appear in this story — and, most importantly, what they can or cannot reveal about a family's origins.
👇 Now we want to know from you:
Do you have a surname that you've always been curious to find out where it came from?
Write the surname in the comments and say which state or country you are watching from. 🇧🇷
