She said stodgy not starchy. Stodgy means heavy and dense.

Going out to pubs for a Sunday roast is fine, but you'll never beat a homecooked one

No Garlic that's just a restaurant thing. Just herbs if anything at all

Not spinich, it cabbage greens. No coleslaw

You have no idea what a Sunday roast is 😂😂😂😂😂

Sunday roast can be any roasted meat: beef, pork, lamb or chicken, veg of your choice whatever is in season but not spinach, the more crispy the roast potato’s  the better and of course the Yorkshire Pudding. Certainly no coleslaw.

No one has spinach on a Sunday roast

Spinach? No no no no no!!

She said stodgy not starchy, the perfect Yorkshire pudding should be light, soft on the bottom and crisp on top, 😋.

Not bread it's Yorkshire pudding which is roast pancake batter

Yorkshire pudding is not bread. It’s a batter mix which rises once put into a very hot oil dish.

Any day of the week. Last week I had one on Sunday AND Monday. This week I'm having one on a Monday again! Can't beat a roast

Our Sunday roast consists of Yorkshire pudding, roast rib of beef, roast potatoes, creamed potatoes, roast parsnips, steamed carrots, green beans, and either green cabbage or cauliflower. All served on a plate with lashings of roast beef dripping gravy. Delicious, eating out is ok but NOTHING beats homemade. We eat ours around 14:00 hrs and either have two or three courses, if there’s any beef left it goes into sandwiches for supper. Yum 😋

The veg is often seasonal and changes regularly. The meat is usually locally sourced. The best thing is it’s filling, pretty healthy and was a cheap way to embellish expensive meat . You’d usually have a garden full of vegetables and leftovers become soup for the next few days. The main enjoyment is being with everyone. A great catch up over a wholesome meal, what’s better than that?!

Growing up I never had a Sunday without a Sunday roast. I always took it for granted it was standard but now i know the work involved I really admire my mum and aunties for all that effort every week. I think a Yorkshire puds comparison for you guys might be a bit like a waffle mix 🤔

Getting a sunday roast for lunch tomorrow with the family. It isnt a regular thing but i do love a roast when I have it.

Historically, for the general working class household, meat was not something afforded every day. Sunday was a non work day and the day to have the family to enjoy the best big meal of the week.
The left overs from this meal would do for the following days by stewing the bones for soups and frying the veg for 'bubble and squeak'  - named for the sound it made whilst cooking.

You don't have to put garlic on a joint of beef for Sunday roast garlic is an overpowering taste that can take away the flavours of the rest of the meal including the gravy but of coarse it's up to the individual but being an ex-chef who wanted to try a bit of flare i tried it once and it didn't go down that well. Back in the day roasting joints were seasoned with basic seasoning.

It doesn’t just have to be a beef roast, it can also be chicken, Turkey, pork or lamb. As far as veggies are concerned it can be anything but typically it’s a mixture of things like honey glazed carrots, cauliflower cheese, broccoli, parsnips, cabbage.

Avoid waxy spuds for the roasties and maybe try carrots and swedes mashed together with butter. For gravy try to find some Bisto granuels and some horse radish sauce for the beef.
