Somerville sounds absolutely lovely, but we are retired and in the process of moving from Virginia to Bluffton. Currently renovating a home we bought there in Sun City south.  We had Bluffton  at the top of our relocation list for eight years. Prices were much lower then, but we bought a fixer-upper and we can do the work ourselves.  We love our community and our neighbors,  we have longtime close friends from Virginja living near by, and there are abundant free or low-cost activities in the community, so we are very happy with our choice, but you have made a good argument for most people, especially those who are younger.  The native South Carolinians in our area, couldn’t be more pleasant, and I imagine it’s the same all over the state.

You’re right I both of those places and I saw that for myself

You are absolutely right I totally agree. I visit Bolt and I saw that for myself.

Good video Ryan..

Great video, Ryan. Could you compare the crime rates, median income, traffic, infrastructure, school overcrowding, and tax rates between the two areas?
I agree with almost everything you mentioned, but I feel you missed a few things that lean a little more toward Bluffton. I live in Summerville, but I’ll tell you the roads around Bluffton seem much better maintained and have far fewer boarded-up homes and businesses. Bluffton also appears cleaner, more well-kept, and better cared for overall.
When we’re not talking about downtown Summerville or the master-planned communities, Summerville has noticeably more abandoned or boarded-up homes and businesses. Take a drive down Bacon Bridge Road for a clear example.

Hey Ryan,
Happy 4th of July! You were absolutely right—I thought Bluffton was the best place to relocate in South Carolina, but one visit proved me wrong. It is definitely not for me.
Let’s talk soon!

Team Summerville!!!

I live in Bluffton, and I can tell you first hand, I don’t like it.

I moved here because my in laws moved down here. It’s great if you’re retired, and live in one of the many retirement communities, but if you’re young with kids, Summerville sounds like a much better option.

In bluffton, All they do is build these cookie cutter communities that all look the same, and the infrastructure can’t handle it. The amount of car accidents down here is insane. Good doctors are extremely hard to come by, and a lot of people travel to Charleston, or Savannah for good healthcare. There is also a severe lack of good paying jobs. Not a lot of things to do for kids either.

My wife and I are looking to get out, just waiting for rates to come down. We were looking into Summerville, NC or VA, but not sure what we want to do yet.

Whatever area anyone decides, I highly recommend visiting, and spending a lot of time there, get a feel for the area. Talk to the locals and get their perspective.
