Seeing Deafheaven play live was an experience like no other. I had just gone through the darkest period of my life and I drove five hours away from home just to see them play, with the hope of being able to take my mind off of what I was going through and enjoying some killer tunes. They opened the set with Black Brick (my personal favourite) and closed the show with Dream House. Being in that room with a hundred other people all just standing there soaking in the sound as the band roar through Dream House, we're all crying and hugging eachother, and it's like the band was speaking directly to all of us in the audience, saying that life is shit right now, but it will get better. Just have faith. I still have the sight of George screaming "I want to dream" right in front of my face burned into my retinas. There were many points during the show where him and I would lock eye contact. It felt like he was staring straight into my soul. I haven't felt anything like it. It was otherworldly, unsettling but also hauntingly calming and peaceful. I love this band.

Sadness - I Want To Be There

Joey when it comes to anime: 💤
Joey when it comes to beeps and boops: 🗣🗣🔥

It's kinda strange how much atmospheric black metal and shoegaze cross over at points: reverb, noise and droning somethings

SO: An Autumn for Crippled Children - Try Not to Destroy Everything You Love

I traveled 9 hours to see them play sunbather in full on their anniversary tour a few years ago and it was soul altering.
I'm terrible with words but even so I don't believe they offer a way to truly describe my time in that room.

Deafheaven is releasing a new album this year and both of the singles so far have been absolutely amazing. Magnolia is an absolute beater with beautiful lyrics and Heathen harkens back to their more recent offerings and combines them with their heavier sound from albums like Sunbather. Deafheaven is back and it's looking like they might make an album as good as Sunbather.

Oathbreakers “Ease Me” and Holy Fawn’s “Death Spells” are absolutely essential if Sunbather is up there for you

Yesssss metal can be so beautiful, I'm glad others see that too. Metal is fairly special in just how "ugly" it can be. But when that is given as context, the truly beautiful moments of soaring guitars, dream-like atmosphere/soundscapes, and poetic lyrics shine so much brighter than a song without that ugliness ever could. The contrast that metal has access to is just... beautiful

they're calling it the most rateyourmusic video of all time

Has to be 'Souvenirs d'un autre monde' by Alcest for me. Most beautiful album I've ever heard, in fact. <3

Most black metal and funeral doom is beautiful. Mare cognitum, esoteric, midnight odyssey, ahab, ect. are absolute ear candy and are super emotionally impactful.

Bro forgot the father of this deafheaven's sounds is Alcest

I remember the first time I heard Sunbather. It was out of morbid curiosity, because I heard it was a black metal adjacent album. At the time I was a little intimidated by that fact because I hadn’t had a lot experience with albums in that area of music let alone a particularly storied and niche subset of metal like black metal. But I wanted to try because I learned about its acclaim on music sites. My first time listening to it was very unique. I could feel the simultaneous dread and ascension from the melding of the soaring guitars masking the harsh vocals and blast beats. I was really lucky to just happen to try listen to album on a sunny mid-afternoon in my room with decent headphones. It was an incredibly immersive experience. Thanks to this video, it’s one that hope I can recapture when I listen to it again. Deafheavan’s other music is also good, but there is only one Sunbather. I never thought much about the lyrics (as I could barely make them out) but I’m glad the video clarified them and displayed how personal and political they really are. I can’t wait to listen to this album now that I’ve grown more as a person since the last time listening to it. Love the videos and production quality, can’t wait to see more.

Oh man... If you love Sunbather you gotta check out these two records

Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture
Sadness - I want to be there

P.S: Hostile Architecture is an avant-garde black metal record, contains beautiful spoken (sometimes screamed) word
Sadness is more of a blackgaze project by a very talented singular individual, Damian, who also leads other great projects (such as Trhä, one of the best black metal I've ever listened to).

Sunbather is a epic soundscape of everyday life struggles. The album is a masterpiece.

Im loving this concept that joey-, i mean Ikurru is going for. Personally i love documented videoes especially when its late in the night and its not easy to find someone who would talk music theory sensibly. Love this format man!

Opeth and Deafheaven are my favorite because they can blend metal and the melancholic feeling, and something beautiful so seamlessly

I teally appreciate this channel for what it is. There aren't many of these left that are pushed by the algorithm.

Who remembers when Apple used Sunbather in a press conference
