Pulp Fiction (known as "Tiempos violentos" in Latin America) is a 1994 American film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The screenplay is based on stories that Tarantino developed in collaboration with Roger Avary during 1992 and 1993, including scenes that were originally written for True Romance. Using a non-linear narrative, the film interweaves several stories whose protagonists are members of organized crime in Los Angeles. The stylized dialogue, the blend of humor and violence, and its ironic tone distinguish the film. Its name derives from the pulp magazines and hard-boiled graphic novels, very popular in the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and harsh prose. It stars John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Samuel L. Jackson, Harvey Keitel, Bruce Willis, and Tim Roth, among others. It is considered one of the most representative films of the American director's work, and one of the works that established him as a filmmaker.
