I clip Derrick because this way, at least Momma Mcreary has one of her children able to take care of her as Kate canonically dies, Gerry is imprisoned for a very long time, and Packie leaves to LS

To be honest both of them deserves to kick the bucket

What’s more consistent for Niko? Hating betrayers or hating corruption…
He’s a criminal, corruption is his bread & butter. Revenge against betrayal is very in line for him.

Derrick. He sent Gerry to prison.

If Derrick was in the IRA it’s very likely he was involved or directly participated in terrorist attacks that killed children which is Somthing to consider

One other thing from what I remember is that canonically, Derrick dies only a short time after GTA IV anyway regardless of what choice you pick. He's already dead by the time GTA V rolls around, Packie I believe mentions it.

Derrick cuz he's a snitch

You have no idea how annoyed I was when I killed the both of them and I failed the mission

None of them had to or needed to die but Derrick had way worse moral standing (a junkie snitch who betrayed everyone and everything) than Francis (a corrupt hypocritical cop with a promising career). Considering that Derrick eventually threatened Niko too and easily could've ratted him out while Francis kept his word, the choice is rather obvious if we think logically.

BTW, Francis pays more if you call him right before the shot

Francis at least IN THEORY can do something good as a police officer. Also he will probably take care of their mom. Derrick on the other hand is lowlife drug addict who only makes life worse for EVERY member of his family(also i forgot that he's a snitch). In fact i think he wanted to die himself. Considering his miserable lifestyle.
That analysis may be pretty cinncal, but it is what it is.

You know something people really don't give Francis the credit for? His judgement of character, when he says someone is a pos, he's 100% right, look at that mission when that thug told Niko that he would have a change of heart, only to go after Niko later.

Initially my only real gripe against Francis was him ordering Niko to kill Tom Goldberg since he seemed like a decent guy. But once I looked at the Goldberg, Ligner and Shyster website again, it became very clear that the game was implying he did more than just teach little boys to swim. Also, Clarence was a dirtbag that blew his second chance at life by trying to kill Niko and I’m sure the gang member watching television in his apartment wasn’t a saint either.

When you compare that to Derrick’s missions, there’s a major contrast since he asks you to murder the very friends he betrayed all because they rightfully want retribution for what happened to them. Still feel sorry for poor Aiden O’ Malley who briefly got a taste of freedom before getting mercilessly executed. And on top of all that, Derrick doesn’t even pretend to feel guilty about ordering hits on his former friends. He acts like the victim and wallows in his own drug induced misery.

I also think the reason why I chose to kill Derrick during my first playthrough was because Mrs McReary didn’t seem all that close to him compared to her other sons. With Francis you get the notion that he’s in contact with his mother pretty regularly since we see him have a casual conversation with her over the phone at the start of one of his missions. So Francis dying would’ve likely taken a heavier toll on her.

Morally: Francis
Objectively: Derrick

Derrick for he betrayed everyone, including his brother Gerry.

This isn't the type of decision that is similar to killing Playboy or Dwayne where Playboy is objectively the better choice to kill him. In this decision this is one of the hardest as both brothers are extremely toxic and neither of them are good persons.

Francis is a corrupt and a hypocritical cop that has the desire to kill his own family, while Derrick is a snake by betraying his former allies and is paranoid for using drugs.

Well, giving the consequences... Still Derrick is the one to be spared for me. He is at the end of his rope - a few years at most and his life would be over in the most litteral sense. Age, abuses, overall lifestyle... With his disposition he wouldn't be a real threat to anybody and, provided that Nico won't throw him under the bus after the choice, I can't really see him turning on Nico. Plus, his family favors him more than Francis.

Francis, on the other hand, is the real liability. He may be not a Tenpenny, but given enough time, resources and opportunity, he could grow into something alike. Who's to say that his ego wouldn't overgrow into something much more gluttenous and avaricious? Then he would be in a perfect position to make more people suffer (probably including Nico) while still climbing hierarchical ladder and growing more dangerous. Yes, situation may be more nuanced between him and Nico than between CJ and Tenpenny and the leash may be longer and less sturdy... But it's a risk I'd rather not take.

I’m glad more people are realizing Derrick is the better choice to waste. With Francis dead Nikos case switches hands and it leaves problems for him in the long run.

I think Nico in character would kill Francis because he was beging threatened. But personally, Derek is complete gutter scum who needs to die. He sold friends very much like Darko Brevic. Plus, I think Maureen needs a son who won't die in a robbery or jail.

Me personally I would kill Derrick over Francis because Derrick probably would have snitched on Niko. Derrick is a snitch and I didn't trust him at all. And he is a drug addict. And Packie himself tells Niko during a hangout that Derrick is a snitch so I knew not to trust him.
