এখনও তাঁকে মানুষ চেনে শুধুই মহালয়া দিয়ে! অথচ অসীম প্রতিভাধর মানুষটির অনায়াস যাতায়াত ছিল কত বিচিত্র ক্ষেত্রে! যাঁর শেষবেলা কেটেছে সতীর্থদের অনাদরে, অবহেলায়, অপমানে। বীরেন্দ্রকৃষ্ণ ভদ্র। বহু অজানা কাহিনি বললেন তাঁর ঘনিষ্ঠ সহকর্মী জগন্নাথ বসু১৯৭৬ সাল। আকাশবাণীর কর্তৃপক্ষ ঠিক করলেন চিরাচরিত ‘মহিষাসুরমর্দিনী’ বীরেন্দ্রকৃষ্ণর বদলে উত্তমকুমারকে দিয়ে করাবেন। তাঁদের গোপন বৈঠকে বাদ পড়লেন বীরেন্দ্রকৃষ্ণ ভদ্র। এই নতুন উদ্যোগ ঘুণাক্ষরেও টের পাননি বীরেনদা। পরিবর্তিত ‘মহিষাসুরমর্দিনী’র স্ক্রিপ্ট লিখেছিলেন ডঃ গোবিন্দগোপাল মুখোপাধ্যায়। ভদ্রলোক ছিলেন বর্ধমান বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের সংস্কৃতের বিভাগীয় প্রধান। নির্দিষ্ট দিনে রেডিয়োয় বাজল নতুন অনুষ্ঠান ‘দেবীং দুর্গতিহারিণীম্’। এবং চূড়ান্ত ফ্লপ।
