A lot of people told me the Triumph Trident 660 is the perfect first bike and honestly, I was sceptical. With over 90 bhp on tap, how could this thing be a beginner's motorcycle? So I threw a leg over one in the rain to find out.

My plan was simple: a gentle ride around town to see how it handles typical British weather. But something happened. The Trident 660 is so smooth, so confidence-inspiring, that I just... kept going. Before I knew it, I was up on the Peak District moors in howling wind and driving rain, and I was still grinning from ear to ear.

Is this really the best starter bike money can buy? Or is it something far more than that?

I test rode a first gen trident 660 and it was super comfy and the engine is super smooth, kudos to you for persevering with the weather.

I think out of all the middleweight naked bikes this is the best looking, I've been on the hunt for my first bike, was looking at the usual, ninja 500, cbr500r, thought about looking at naked but personally didn't like the look of any of the Japanese on offer then stumbled upon the triumph and fell in love

Been waiting for you to review this bike. I totally agree on the feeling of just wanting to ride it. The number of times on my way home I have just randomly carried on riding and ending up somewhere without knowing where I am. Great review!

I had a Trident for 3 years loved it, great for all types of riding, only upgraded as I got an opportunity to buy a Moto2 street triple

Good review Adam. Had mine, new in white, a couple of months now (Triumph added bar end mirrors and heated grips for me) ... did a whole lotta research before coughing up the cash .. very pleased with my choice. keep em coming fella

92Bhp is 68.6kw anything over 50kw in Europe is an A class license motorcycle, I've seen a lot of used tridents up for sale here in Finland all A2 compliant so obviously restricted if they can make 92bhp, I don't know why anyone would need more than 92bhp especially here in Finland as rules for Motorcycles are harsh filtering is against the law so there is no advantage to get to the front in traffic, although to be fair there is no such thing as traffic like you have in the UK with speeds of 30kph (18mph) 40kph (24mph) and 50kph (31mph) being common place in towns, nobody seems in a rush to get anywhere no queues in towns no tail backs on motorways, 92bhp on the trident sounds perfect.

Great bike and do love mine, looking to either swap to a scrambler 1200 Xe or keep it in addition to one. Interesting to hear your comparison between the two as everyday bikes

Pegaso 650 last year was my first bike, couldn’t wait any longer I brought my brothers R1150GSA as my second Bike, if I had a choice of anything under £11k the Tiger Sport 800 with all the luggage would be my perfect bike…..
