Field Marshal Burkhard Christoph Munnich played a huge role in Russian history. He outlived four emperors, launched sweeping reforms in the army, rose to the pinnacle of power, and spent 20 years in Siberian exile.

— How did Munnich and Peter the Great meet, and what came of it?
— At what critical moment did Munnich save St. Petersburg, and what did he do for the city?
— When and why did cavalry, hussar, and cuirassier regiments appear?
— Which battle of 1739 brought glory to Russia with minimal losses?
— Why did they want to execute Munnich, and why was he pardoned?

We explore this in detail in Yegor Yakovlev's program "Historical Education" on Sputnik Radio.
