Sato is a must, you missed out on Murekami last year don't make the same mistake again.  You get a young power bat and very good defender at 3rd, Durbin goes to 2nd and can play very good defense there, while Mead can DH for now or back up at 2nd/3rd.  Most power hitters are going to K a lot, but it is worth the trade off to improve your lineup.

Lately, our entire seasons have boiled down to 3 days in the Bronx.  A lefty pull hitter might actually be a better fit than another "wear-out-the-monster" guy.

If they won't take chance on known commodities like Alonso or Schwarber, this feels like a bit of a long shot.
And as a general rule of thumb, the analytics guys aren't noted risk takers on players that strike out a lot.

I'm not gonna say it... I'm not gonna say it... I'm gonna say it... I tried to tell anyone who would listen that Murakami would be the real deal especially at that low payroll number. Sato isn't as known in the NPB but it is a dead ball era there and if he's still slugging then he must have pretty good power. I am not as high on Sato as I was Murakami and Okimoto but I'm not out either. There's nobody but Seiya in FA so it's either a younger Japanese player with question marks or a proven (in MLB) but lower ceiling and older Japanese player. It's a matter of you want the proven (in the MLB) higher floor or the possible higher ceiling. I think this one is a bigger question mark than Murakami but I would be happy with us doing either because at least we are trying to improve the power unlike last year were it would have been easier and we just didn't.

I would be in favor of bringing in Sato, he gives me Matsui vibes. use him in LF/DH with Anthony and the occasional  spell of Durbin at 3b. You would relaxed Duran’s LH bat with Sato’s LH bat. With Contreas, Durbin, Mead and Rafaela from the right side and Adley switch hitting that pretty much balances your lineup. I feel like Japanese players do well learning how to maximize their talent in the MLB so I would think he could learn to go the other way. Given the cost of Japanese hitters the past couple of years it would be pretty cost effective.

Ohtani is a unicorn and I had felt NPL players were 50/50 but im starting to believe in their league players! Good fundamentals and overall discipline and now I believe the conditioning to compete in the MLB. If Redsox can find anyone that might bat near .300 they should look into that heavily. Just like Mead tho I think a trade that isnt obvious could be an answer also.
Now that pitching is more solid and Bresbot can focus just on a bat I do believe he will pull something off. Lets hope he nails it!!

Can he throw a gyro pitch?

I really like this idea. It would be hard to fit everyone and some trades would have to happen. But if we get Sato then we get an above average defender and high up side on offense. The Sox could definitely make this work it’s just how uncomfortable are they gonna get on trades, who are they gonna trade for and if/when there’s a salary cap

I don’t expect them to do to much unless they can unload Story and Yoshida.

We need to make a trade to clear some room before any FA signings. If not we’d have a lot of dead money. Masa, Duran, Mead, Story, Durbin. If we added Sota who does add power you’re sitting or releasing dead money. See who you can move and see where Sato could play next.

I wouldn't be totally opposed to this however I'd prefer a right handed power hitter however if that doesn't happen definitely bring in Sato!

Murakami last 3 games in the ALDS 0/11 8K. We dont need more players that strikesout a ton

Not a bad idea.  But Sato's primarily a 3rd baseman.  What then will you do with Caleb Durbin?  Sato can also play the outfield, but the Sox outfield is crowded, so either Yoshida or Duran (or both) has to go.

Idk if it makes sense to bring in a “power” lefty. I think they should try to improve DH, LF, and SS.

We miscalculated the value of Murakami. Can we afford to do the same with Sato?

Yoshida's production may go up with another Japanese player to pal around with.

I think Mead needs to be an OF/DH on this team. His defense is just not that good. And he's not supplanting Contreras at 1B.

I would say no... We have a bad track record when it comes to signing international hitters. International pitchers, we've been doing pretty good. I'd rather stick to a hitters with a MLB experience, like Seiya or Arozarena.

dfa yoshida and duran sign sato and arozerana

I'd prefer the Red Sox making a trade (not Bryce Harper) than overpaying and having to outbid a number of MLB teams for Teruaki Sato... Should a hitter be acquired this off season, I'd greatly prefer one who has demonstrated that he can consistently put the ball in play than add another bat that strikes out at a 25 % plus rate ... We already have too many of them in our batting order : Trevor Story 32.7% Jamai Jones 32.4% , Jarren Duran 27.2% , Roman Anthony 26.7%, and Wilson Contreras 25.1% ...

Making solid contact with hitters focusing on being short to the ball with zero wasted motion will create more foul line to foul line and outfield gap double production while reducing strikeouts, driving up opponent's pitch counts in two strike situations, and driving in runners in scoring position especially in two out in the inning circumstances ... By following this winning minded offensive game plan by not over swinging for the fences, I predict the team collectively has the potential to offensively end up hitting more home runs in 2027 ...
