UNBOWED AT JANTAR MANTAR: MASS DETENTIONS FAIL TO SILENCE PROTESTERS
▪️ THE RED MIKE GROUND REPORT ▪️
Jantar Mantar is once again surrounded by barricades, police buses and a heavy security presence.
But the crackdown has failed to empty the streets.
Students, workers, professionals and senior citizens continue to arrive—some returning after being detained or injured the previous day.
The message from the protest ground is becoming harder to ignore: detention may clear a street temporarily, but it cannot erase dissent.
When state power answers peaceful mobilisation with barricades, bans and mass detentions, the bigger question is simple: how long can coercion suppress a citizen movement that refuses to retreat?
VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS
🔹 Citizens assemble despite heavy police presence
🔹 Students, workers and senior citizens unite against alleged arbitrary action
🔹 Police move in with aggressive detentions and clearance operations
🔹 Protesters return, refusing to be deterred
[01:24] RECLAIMING THE STREETS AT JANTAR MANTAR
Barricades choke access to Delhi’s designated protest ground, but citizens continue to gather around them. Students and workers arrive to raise questions over detentions, restrictions and accountability.
“एक जो हिस्सा डर का रहता है वो ये लोग रोज खत्म करते रहते हैं” [03:54]
[04:31] CITIZENS AND WORKERS UNITED AGAINST INJUSTICE
The crowd cuts across professional and social lines. Corporate employees stand alongside university teachers and blue-collar workers. For many, remaining silent is no longer an option.
“डर से ज्यादा मुझे लगता है कि हमें आना चाहिए क्योंकि अगर सब डर के बैठे रहेंगे तो कुछ चेंज नहीं होने वाला है” [08:02]
[08:43] SENIOR CITIZENS CONFRONT STATE POWER
Senior citizens step forward despite the police presence, challenging restrictions and questioning the use of force. Their message is direct: disagreement with authority cannot become a reason to silence citizens.
“हम लोग डरने वाले नहीं हैं जो सच है उसको सच कहने वाले हैं और गलत बात को गलत कहने वाले हैं” [08:43]
[11:21] CHAPTER 4: MASS DETENTIONS AND POLICE ACTION
Security forces move in as the protest is cleared. Demonstrators are taken away in police buses, with some protesters alleging injuries during the operation. But detention does not end the mobilisation—those released return to the frontline.
“कितना डिटेन करेंगे कितने बसों को लाएंगे आप लोग” [13:14]
[14:03] POETRY BECOMES PROTEST
An injured activist turns to poetry to demand accountability from those in power. The words capture the mood of a movement that sees every detention not as an ending, but as another reason to return.
“उन्हें गुरूर है अपने पहाड़ होने का लेकिन हम भी मांझी हैं” [16:33]
♦️If repeated detentions cannot deter citizens from returning, the effectiveness of coercion itself comes into question.
