Hey everyone, welcome to what (might?) be another entry to the breaking Subnautica sub-series. Deleting files from games is fun, so let's do it with Subnautica! This video was inspired by ‪@shounic‬'s video doing the same thing in TF2, so make sure to check theirs out too! Link below.

Sorry for not uploading in more than 2 months, lotta stuff going on. Look at community tab for explanation.

Modder here- Optoctrees are terrain files. Each "batch" correlates to a section of the map (like minecraft's 'chunks'). Deleting the first batch removed some random part of the world. Deleting the rest removed the rest of the world xD

At 14:13, the game had opened. There was just nothing to show except the mouse. You deleted the water and the play button

subnautica but it’s actually just an ocean planet with accurate depth

Game dev here, the reason why it recognized the lost river and the jellyshroom caves is likely because the biomes are being determined based on the players position on the 2D map which was stored in the .bin file. Since it's really hard to make a 3D map like this, for cave biomes they'll likely be collider based and not determined by the map.

i not a dev but i dont think you needed any of that its all good dw

The reason deleting the stuff in the managed folder and the one dll outside of it immediately stopped the game from loading is that that's when you finally started deleting executable code instead of just data (stats, locations, assets, anything that's completely meaningless outside the context of the game itself)

What no new game for four years does to a community:

This is like giving the game a lobotomy.

So deleting files just gives you the console experience.

Having all of the labels be replaced with the far too literal version of them shouldn't be funny, but it is lol

"Can I beat Subnautica with absolutely nothing in it?"

YouTube deleted my comment explaining that the "UnityPlayer" DLL file you deleted contains ALL of the game's code.

thank you so much for putting the song titles for the background music in the corner of the video I would've spent 2 hours trying to figure out where I recognized the stick fight music from

fun fact i learned from an old console version: if you manage to get the cyclops upside down or at an angle, you can place chairs just about anywhere that is orientationally the floor, even outside the cyclops. i learned this after glitching the cyclops upside down in the void before it was made a solid block instead of a wall that turned non-collidable after a while. end result? chair on the roof upside down, and a scenic seat at the top of the cyclops by its antennae
