This song is about the Thirty Years' War that dominated central Europe in the 17th century (1618-1648). To this day it is one of the longest and bloodiest wars in history, with the death toll falling between 4 million and 8 million. Many of the fatalities were not even from active warfare, but famine and disease also plagued the area, upping the casualties that much more. Casualties reached such a high number that many Swedish men were forced to fight when they had barely reached manhood, and sometimes even before then. Which really makes the title of the song ("A Lifetime of War" in English) hit a little harder. Men basically spent their entire lives at war, no chance for a peaceful life.
The was about the battle between Catholics and Protestants, and at some point during the war almost every major player/Country in Europe was a part of it.

This Swedish version of the song tells the story from a Swedish soldier's point of view. You should also check out the English version; it is not a direct translation from the Swedish, but it rather tells the story of the war from the perspective of the outside people, those not involved directly in the war but were affected by it.

The lyrics hits hard, but it also shows that even when times change, new technology comes, one thing remains constant and that is the horrors of the war, both those who fall in it and those who survive and have to live with nightmare every day (ptsd).

Greetings from Denmark

They sing about the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) .. Where Sweden became a great power 💙💛

The deep story about this song, is this soldier, grown up without family, don't have any story, get drafted into one of the longest wars. When he dies, he has not made any mark to be remembered. Just fading away into oblivion.

Sabaton "40:1" from Woodstock Poland 2012 is a must see live performance. The story is about a few polish soldiers delaying the huge German army during the German invasion of Poland. Having that sung in Poland for polish audience is spectacular. Also the crowed is enormous. If I am correct there was 550,000 there that year.

There are also two other songs from that performance that is really good: "Ghost Division" and "Uprising".

Ghost Division is about a German panzer group (?) that made a crazy advancement into Belgium and France far ahead of any of the German army.

Uprising is about the polish uprising in Warzaw. That is also a great song when performed in Poland 😊

Sabaton is a great band

Danish here. i know this song and lyrics in swedish by heart. The song is so amazing and beautiful. Denmark and Sweden have been to war with eachother for about 36 times or so. Cheers for peace my Swedish brothers and sisters. Heja Sverige! :)

One of my ancestors was called out to fight for Sweden, leaving his family, during the 30 Years War. He was one of those who never came home. (At least according to my great grandfather's genealogical research.)

My favorite performance and live video, SABATON - Ghost Division (official Live) from Woodstock 2012.
550.000 people in the crowd. That's amazing. Can you make a reaction video?

Joalim conducting a choir of thousands...
Hits me every time.

If you want something else take a look at https://youtu.be/wPE6cw812oI. It is a song by Tommy Johansson, the lead guitarist from Sabaton. The song is a fun one with music from Disney movie but song from Sabaton. It is really nice and you also get a chance to hear Tommy sing. He has a great voice.

Take a look an have fun.

If you ever have a chance to see Sabaton live, don’t even think about it, just go, you will have the most fun you have ever had at a live gig!

If you want live performance you shuold definitely react to 40:1 and Uprising from the concert in 2012 in Poland!

They also have a History Channel connected to the history of all their songs. Swedish Pagans live in Wachunfest is amazing with a worls renown Chelist.

Love your reactions.❤❤❤

You'll have to react to The price of a mile, live with Sabaton
