The moment Henry stops saying They like it’s a story about someone else, and starts saying I, revealing it’s a story about him and Joe, is pretty powerful
I met Henry Rollins at a in-store appearance at Moby Disc, Sherman Oaks, Ca. shortly after Joe was killed. I brought my copy of ‘Hot Animal Machine’ LP and asked if he could write something ‘insightful’ on the back cover. He wrote ‘The only break you get is that you get to go on’.
Looking back now I would’ve never asked him for ANYTHING after the tragedy he just went through but he was like a mentor me back then. Thank you, Henry. 🙏
I felt the same way cuz I lost one of my childhood friend Marquese D. Moore due to gun violence on May 6th 2023. Me & Marquese never spoke to each other in years & didn't get a chance to go to his funeral cuz I didn't realize he's gone. If Marquese was alive, him & his brother Maurice would've become my bodyguards cuz they protect me at all cost since childhood. Even though I can't bring my friend(Marquese) back, but I'll bring his legacy. Rest easy, Godcousin(Marquese). 😔💔🙏🏿
Best friend was murdered in 2016. Henry's words here are heart breaking and extremely comforting all at once. Going through that at 15 was just such a reality check for me after losing so much important family already. Life is so fucking hard. I have always connected with Henry's cold but powerful perspective on life since I'm sure so many of us feel this way deeply. Living in drugs and violence can ruin you and I've seen it first hand with so many family and friends.
Henry Rollins will forever be one of the most influential people in my life for this simple fact you have a life, please don't give it up on stupid shit and enjoy your time while you're here. You don't get another one so please live it out. Thanks for all the years of Black Flag and Rollins Band, they have put pain into words I think many don't articulate well
I was literally in the middle of a heroin relapse and heard this video and made the decision to get clean again. That was so heavy and real…I needed to hear that
I saw him on this tour when he stopped at my college. He wasn't my favorite BF singer and I couldn't get into the Rollins Band. BUT seeing this extended monologue----this felt right. A truly perfect form for the guy...or, more accurate (and self-centered), a perfect form for ME to absorb what his soul puts puts into the world.
I had no idea Henry had endured such a tragic experience. Rest easy, Joe Cole. And all my love to all of those who have lost a dear friend young in life.
