As a young kid I didn't understand the classroom scenes at all, so I didn't fully grasp what an idiot the teacher is. The older I got, the more I laughed 😂

The fact that Charlie came up with a plausible reason to tell the teacher as to why he only opened two, instead of drawing attention to his poverty… He knew his teacher and peers would (wrongly) look down on him if he admitted why he couldn’t open more, so he kept his dignity. It’s a heartbreaking little detail that sheds a light on how society makes those who are less fortunate feel embarrassed and self-conscious when they shouldn’t.
