Twenty-five illegal safety tricks learned outside that most homeowners never think of — because the people who figured them out were sleeping where security meant staying alive, not protecting property. This video walks through the methods I picked up during four winters on the street in Cleveland that I still use today to keep my house, my supplies, and my family safe without paying for alarm systems, contractors, or monthly monitoring subscriptions. These are not theoretical. Every one of them was tested in conditions where getting it wrong meant losing everything you had, and most of them cost nothing or close to nothing. Some of them look unusual enough that neighbors might call them questionable, but every one works and none of them will actually get you in trouble.
When you have no address, no insurance, and no police response time that matters, you learn home safety without spending money in ways that the security industry will never teach you because they can't sell a product around it. Homeless survival home security comes from understanding how people actually break in, what they look for, and what stops them cold — not from sensors and cameras but from physical deterrents, sight lines, lighting angles, and habits that make a target look harder than the one next door. The cheap home security tricks in this video come from that same thinking applied to a regular house. Winter home safety is its own category because cold weather changes the threat profile — different entry points become vulnerable, different routines create different patterns, and the things that protect you in July can fail you in January. Street-smart protection methods are not about technology. They are about awareness, positioning, and making the right things hard to do.

Secondly, it lights a warning light outside that lets me know I've got a "fish on" situation.
