My Mother threw out things ruthlessly. She would screw up old paperwork so there was no hope of retrieving it. This infuriated me, but her home was always tidy and mine is a tip. The difficulty in following this video’s good advice is twofold: can’t put stuff away because the cupboards are overflowing, and too tired to clean as you go or do the nightly reset. But my daughter cleaned out a junk room by devoting just 15 minutes a day to decluttering it. I thought it was too little to make a difference and would feel frustrated at leaving it just as you’d got started. But she was able to keep going knowing that she could stop before she got tired. And the elephant got eaten, one bite at a time.

I have done this for years, I am from a family of 14 kids, my Mom kept her home tidy because she taught us how to pick up our things and keep them put away. We also helped clean the house every Saturday and dishes after meals. Certainly miss my parents!

Thank you. My challenge has always been my closet. My biggest challenge is that I promise myself that I will loose ten ponds one day and that sun dress will look great on me once again. 🤭

I’m surprised that your grandmother followed the one in, one out rule. My experience with parents who grew up during the Depression is that they never threw anything out as they thought they might need it some day.

I have a mending box, but my problem is that I never take time to go through it. I do have a key bowl and hooks on the wall of my kitchen which is right near the front door. I know that if my keys are not there they are in my purse or in a pocket of what I am wearing. One problem I have is that I have no large cabinets to keep appliances. They do have to stay on the counter. These are the Air fryer, food processor, and Instapot, plus a Keurig coffee pot. The mixer and toaster do have a home inside the roll top enclosure under my cabinets. The top of the refrigerator is where chips, cookies, and snacks have to be stored. The canned goods live in a basement pantry. I do clean as I go and the kitchen counter and stove are being wiped throughout the day as they get soiled. I have always hated housework, so keeping the house clean and tidy has always been a problem for me. I much prefer working outside in the garden.
