Crossing the road is easier in Phnom Penh than a western city. Without being stupid, that's important, when you see a modest break in the traffic, step onto the road and raise your hand. Traffic will slow down to give you a bigger break to cross safely and will frequently stop completely. Very considerate really. Walk into the traffic not with or straight across the traffic...it works. Once you commit to crossing, don't stop, keep going. Remember to give an indication of thanks. The traffic moves like a school of fish.
Hi, thanks for the info. I'm researching retirement there and don't think I want to live in Phnom Penh myself. I'm leaning towards in or around Siem Reap. That looks like more my speed. Although just outside of Phnom Penh may not be too bad. One of the issues I'm seeing is expats my age moving there and not being able to get health care insurance. Providers refusing to insure older expats. I'm seeing stories of expats moving there not thinking about insurance until they get there. Then have a medical emergency that wipes out their savings and end up on the streets like the guy in your example. I don't want to be like that guy. I'll have to dig a little deeper and see if I can come up with anything. Happy to find a informative channel that I don't have to use CC translations on, LOL. YT translator doesn't work too well on Khmer. Subed and watching your other videos. ๐๐
Still safer than American roads with the traffic rules. An average of roughly 16,248 car accidents occur each day across the U.S., leading to around 6,235 injuries and 106 fatalities. A total of around 40,000 to 45,000 deaths per year. I rather take my chance in Phnom Penh. Once you are used to the hectic road, everything will be second nature, itโs mostly smooth landing from there
Amazing video โค Very knowledgeable for the westerners and other ppl who thinks just living in Cambodia is peaches and cream. I'm glad you did this vlog. Keep it up ๐ฏ
Well said. PP is full of vices. If you can start a business here, you won't have the time to go out and drink with the girls. I have 2 business's here. I have several expat friends who go out every night. They are doing fine because they have money. If you want to find a girlfriend here hit the gym. Plenty of cuties there. They all have money because the gym is not cheap. Most of them speak English well, and have good jobs. They will not flirt with you. You can strike up a conversation and get to know them. I have a female friend from the gym who owns 2 guest houses.
Be cautious of the Phnom Penh night life!
