As every year around September 17, hundreds of historic military vehicles passed through Meierijstad on Saturday afternoon. The vehicles drove along the roads where Allied troops advanced during Operation Market Garden in September 1944.
After a stopover in Eerde, the convoy headed for Veghel. Along the route in the town center, there was great interest in the impressive military column. Subsequently, the procession drove to the center of Sint-Oedenrode. On the Market Square, visitors felt as if they had briefly stepped back into 1944. The historic vehicles and the participants present created a remarkable scene.
*Organizer pleased with youthful participants*
According to co-organizer Ed Steenbakkers, the column consisted of at least 200 vehicles. In total, more than 800 people took part in the tour, spread across the vehicles, tanks, and motorcycles. The organization was also delighted with the large number of youthful participants.
On the Market Square in Sint-Oedenrode, the orchestra of the 101st Airborne Division provided a fitting musical atmosphere. See omroepmeierij.nl for more articles
