●Overview
On the first morning of the three-day weekend, I headed to Tsuruga New Port for sea fishing,
only to find it completely full at 5:30 AM.
This video captures the day I ended up fishing at a nearby port and caught 18 small fish.
●Details
I was invited sea fishing by a friend. Since I usually fish in Lake Biwa, I'm practically a beginner at sea fishing.
I headed to Tsuruga with the expectation that I might catch something big in the sea.
Arriving at 5:30 AM, Tsuruga New Port (Maruyama Kaiyu Park) was already packed,
with no space left for fishing.
Reluctantly, I moved to a nearby port, unfamiliar with the area, and started fishing.
Using a simple sabiki setup from Daiso and a mix of Ami-hime, Aji Jumbo, and seasoning, I started fishing quietly from a chair. At first, there were no bites, but soon small sardines (urume-iwashi juveniles) began catching doubles, triples, and even quadruples.
I changed my rig hoping to catch a bigger one, but after that, I didn't catch anything at all.
Even switching back to the original rig yielded no results. I truly felt the difficulty of sea fishing.
In total, I caught 18 small fish.
Comparing them with frozen ko-ayu from Lake Biwa, the ko-ayu were actually larger.
All the fish were cooked as tempura for dinner—surprisingly mild and delicious.
The crowds at Tsuruga New Port were far greater than I imagined; even at 5:30 in the morning, I couldn't find a spot.
I'd like to try sea fishing again sometime in the cooler autumn.
Tsuruga's fishing spots were far more crowded than expected.
I plan to try sea fishing again in autumn when the weather is cooler.
