"Marco Rubio places Lisbon on the level of great allies"
On the NOW channel, international relations expert Nuno Miguel Lemos analyzed the official visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Lisbon and the strengthening of the bilateral relationship between Portugal and the United States. The analyst stressed that the American official "places Lisbon and also Athens on the level of great allies," highlighting the historical and strategic relevance of the transatlantic axis for national diplomacy. Nuno Miguel Lemos addressed the geostrategic importance of the Lajes Air Base in the operational support provided by allies in international conflict scenarios, emphasizing that "being an ally today does not mean the same as being an ally of the United States of America in the eighties or nineties." Regarding the scheduled meetings with Prime Minister Luís Montenegro and Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel, he highlighted mutual defense, the military industry, and energy security as central issues, considering that the trip functions as a diplomatic recognition of Lisbon.
