loved this one, really eye opening, I've heard the stories from John's Gospel all my life, but I've never considered deeply how different they are in framing and narrative. Also this lecture really finally helped me to understand the concept of the Logos which I've always found a bit slippery. Thanks so much for all you do, I really look forward to these lectures. :)

Brilliant reading of John, lad!  I'm a big fan of Northrup Frye's Great Code.  Raised Lutheran K thru university.  Lost my traditional faith in my 20's, then began a slow movement back, reading myself to a deeper understanding of the Transcendent.  Back in saddle again on Sundays now.  Though I still struggle with having to drop my IQ at least 10 points to make it through Bible studies before Church; LCMS Lutherans still stuck in literal readings of text.  Of course, truthfully, I go through the IQ dive every time I walk out my door anymore in America anymore.  Should have seen the play reading I attended last night.  Night of the Long Knived Midwits... but I digress.

Words on a page don't do anything for anybody unless they are required by society to follow them. If a religion is true, then it is true. if a religion is propaganda, it has to be repeated and repeated. Its adherents need to be reminded every day and every hour that they are being watched by a guy who is going to judge them after they die. Answer me, this adam walker, why do I need to be reminded every hour every day that my reward is in heaven?
Hindus are stuck in a never-ending cycle of death and rebirth. they are confronted with any object taller than it is wide. it is a worship of the phallic. Hinduism offers no reward; it doesn't even offer time as a reward. nothing. Hindu is not a religion it is a fate. You can't offer anything and you can't get anything. Your person is totally eliminated. You become nothing more than a blip on a heart monitor. you are reduced to being as close to nothing as possible.
Abrahamic religions do much the same thing. it's so clear when you stand outside of religion and look at it without purple-tinted glasses. Adherents wear the goggles of purple and only see the word as a drug.  Believers live in a cocoon that they spin themselves and aren't aware they are doing the work of their god. believers do all the work, and their god promises butterfly. then gives them three days of life. Their religion doesn't do anything. It can't even speak for itself. The believer sits in their hotel room waiting for a train and the train never comes. Believers are born in limbo and spin their cocoon for 80 years. then climb out of their capsule expecting free will only to dry their wings in the sun and be eaten by a bird. a great speckled bird who considers them a snack. God/death is harvesting the crop. The trick their god uses is to blind them to the truth that life is 80 years, not 3 days. that they were born a butterfly and could live for 80 years.
