Hi All,

Today I wanted to show you an idea of how to create an overflow for your aquarium out of PVC to allow you to set up automatic waterchanges without drilling your aquarium.

For many reasons people fear drilling aquariums, it can be difficult, has risks and is nerve racking. This way you can set up a constant syphon to allow for large volume water changes or drip irrigation into the aquariums and have them overflow into a drain.

I've a few questions
1.How big do you need to drill the hole for the water to escape in the longer tube inside tank?
2. Do you need to use a barb end with vinyl tube or could you full pvc connections for the drain outside tank?
3. How long should the pvc pipe i side be? Height of tank?
4. Can you connect 2 overflow to 1 drain pipe for faster flow if incoming water is at a higher flow? Like one on each end of tank connected to main drain?

Thank you very much for sharing this. I like that you demonstrated it in several settings at the end of the video. For those of us who have rimless high clarity tanks that we don't want to drill, this is a great alternative.

I used black low pressure farm piping and connections. It's cheaper than the white stuff and looks better in the tanks. No need to glue.

Also, if you cut notches into the edge of the open end in the tank, you have a water surface skimmer.

Excellent video demonstration of the no-drill system. With it being as simple as this, I don't know why anyone would drill their aquarium. I decided to copy your idea of automatic water changes as well by building a similar system and running PEX tubing to my sink drain and faucet lines. Now all I have to do is open a valve to drain water and open another valve to fill. Makes water changes so easy!
