Hi everyone, it’s Mizana 😊

This was my first time ever watching Borat. I’ve heard of it before, but I had no idea what the movie was really like.

As someone from Kazakhstan, this was… a lot 😅
Funny, uncomfortable, shocking, and unexpected.

Thank you for being kind and watching with me 🤍
What movie should I watch next?

This movie made me feel so many things at once 😅
Thank you for watching with me 🤍 What should I watch next? I picked my next 5 movies but I always take suggestions and then learn if they are good for me.

At the end I said "American tourists" not toys 😭editing error.

During this video I mistakenly said Mukhtar Shakhanov had passed away. He is in fact alive. I apologize for the mistake 🤍

Kazakhstan ministry of tourism actually used Borat’s
“Kazakhstan … very nice!” as the advertising slogan now lol

Movie was filmed in a village in Romania. The locals didn't like it lol

I always love that Azamat is speaking Armenian, and Borat is speaking Hebrew. Just yelling nonsense at each other 😂

Honestly it's not directed at Kazakhstan specifically. They just wanted some random post-soviet country that Americans would have no idea about just to make the "crazy central Asian guy" character.

She laughed: Great success!

This movie is really about how crazy we are here in the USA. Borat's "Kazakh" perspective is a storytelling device to help us look at ourselves from the outside.

I heard that eventually, the Kazakh department of tourism just decided to go with it and made their slogan "Come to Kazakhstan. It's nice!"

I never thought I would watch a Kazakh watch borat, world is small 😁

Borat was 1 of 3 characters from "the ali g show". he would interview people in character and they thought it was real

Other than the intro, the butt of the joke is 100% the Americans who clearly know nothing about the world. They’re willing to accept that this is just “his culture”, but he specifically picked Kazakhstan because he knew nobody would know anything about your country.

He makes Kazakhstan so obviously not Kazakhstan that, in a comedic sense, anyone who believes it to be an accurate portrayal is almost admitting their own ignorance. The joke is not Kazakh people, the joke is on those who believe it to be the real Kazakhstan. He had to choose some vaguely post-Soviet country and project American stereotypes onto it. The point was never to represent a real nation, but to expose the Western gaze and the assumptions embedded within it.

The BEST thing about this movie is that even to THIS DAY at interntional sports events they often play the meme Kazakh national anthem instead of the real one by mistake.

This movie still cracks me up. I had a Kazakh friend in college and when I first met him I kept asking him if he had ever swam in Tinshein Swimming Pool and just refused to accept it when he told me that it doesn’t exist. And any time I’d introduce him to someone, I’d tell them that he’s majoring in Potassium Exports even though he was a Polymer Science major lol.

full name of the film is, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, and it's a mockumentary film. Bruno is another one of his films you should watch

The scenes depicting Borat’s Kazakhstani village were actually shot in the impoverished village of Glod, Romania.

Mother-in-law jokes were a thing in the USA from maybe 1950's to 1980's. The "Not" joke was a thing in the 80s. The guy's jokes are so outdated.

I`m from Brazil, I went to Kazakhstan last year. It is an amazing place, more people should give it a chance. People are verry friendly, they helped me a lot, and even tho comunication sometimes was hard they always found a way to make it happen. I`d love to go again one day

I recently dated a girl from Kazakhstan. She was very against this movie because of all of the outrage about it that she remembered from when she was a girl. She changed her mind after I told her that America was the butt of the joke, not KZ lol

@tomroberts102 7 months ago

I think it was kind of arbitrary how he chose Kazakhstan as Borat's country of origin - certainly not a targeted attack. Previously the character was called Alexei Krickler from Moldova, then Kristo from Albania, before evolving into Borat.
