Foreign fishing vessels have, for years, been accused of entering Somali waters and illegally exploiting and depleting fish stocks, while Somali fishermen have also reported harassment and other forms of abuse.
Consider this: if someone enters your waters illegally, takes your resources without permission, and threatens or harms you when you try to defend yourself, yet you are then labeled a “pirate” for resisting, is that really a fair characterization?
This does not justify piracy or attacks on innocent people. However, the underlying issue of illegal fishing and the exploitation of Somalia’s marine resources should not be ignored. Somalia has the right to protect its territorial waters, enforce its laws, and defend its natural resources against illegal exploitation through lawful means.
The international community should address both sides of the problem rather than focusing on piracy while overlooking the illegal exploitation that has contributed to tensions in Somali waters.
Even though it’s great content I think this is channel something people will look to as cultural reference for a long time. Historic move, you should be incredibly proud of your journey, can’t wait to see whats next.
Big sis taught me some Somali. To this day, I still remember how to call someone crazy in Somali. The whole family was so nice even though they had nothing but a room with beds at that time. I hope they are okay!
