I always remember the quote from KEITH EMERSON  " WHAT SOME PEOPLE  CALL PRETENTIOUS  " I CALL AMBITIOUS"

Excellent video, men! Interesting discussion on Emerson, Lake and Palmer. For those of you out there who think that the so-called “joke song” on many ELP albums is always someone’s least favorite amongst the bunch, prepare to be surprised! Always nice to see some fellow contrarians out there.

I’m looking forward to seeing more bands crop up in this series, and not just The Big Six. Perhaps Renaissance? Marillion? IQ? Rush? Gentle Giant? I’ll stop the list there, since the possibilities are endless. And speaking of The Big Six, Mr. Tom Curless just appeared on my channel - Cretin Classics - for a ranking show of the actual Big Six of Prog!

Cheers from The Big Apple .
Rock Out, Prog On and Pogo!

Knife Edge is based on classical composer Leos Janacek’s “Sinfonietta”. That’s why it sounds so cool.  I agree with Pete. Once you’ve heard the entire Karn Evil suite, nothing shorter will satisfy in my opinion.
Totally disagree with Ken about “Jerusalem”.  It’s magnificent!  The perfect album opener.

dangggg everyone hated the sheriff! it's one of my favorites on that album!

Great episode 😃

Back in the day alot of bands were pushing the envelope:Gentle Giant,Tull,Yes with Wakeman,Uriah Heep,Manfred Mann's Earth Band to name a few

Best:

Take A Pebble
Trilogy
Karn Evil 9

Worst:

The Three Fates
The Sheriff
Benny The Bouncer

Just to note, I don’t dislike these tracks at all, I just enjoy the other tracks on those albums just a bit more.

If you can take Karn Evil 9 as once song, then it's clearly my favorite. If you have to pick an individual section, then I'm taking Toccata over any of them. It's the most underrated song in their catalog and holds up fantastically well.

68 years old, ELP was my favorite band during my high school years in the '70s. I had always read that Emerson was one to cringe in regards to his Lucky Man Moog solo.

Let's see:

S/T
Favorite: "The Barbarian."
Least: "Knife-Edge" - I still love this one.

TRILOGY
Favorite: "The Endless Enigma" (complete).
Least: "Living Sin" - I like it, but never loved it.

BRAIN SALAD SURGERY
Favorite: "Karn Evil 9" (complete). "Jerusalem" is up there as well. These two are practically tied for my #1.
Least: "Benny the Bouncer" - I still love this, but it has to go somewhere.

Would have liked to see “when the apple blossoms…” in place of “Benny the bouncer “

Best:

Take A Pebble (Almost, ALMOST went with Knife Edge because it is, IMO, their best rocker. But TAP is just incredible from start to finish.)

Trilogy (This and From The Beginning are my top two favorite ELP songs. Both epitomize Trilogy being such an underrated album.)

Karn Evil 9 (Slam dunk.)

Worst:

Tank (It really is difficult to pick a worst on the debut, but this also was easy because I've never been the biggest fan of songs centered around drum solos.)

Living Sin (I was absolutely astounded that there was not at least one vote for this. Unarguably Greg Lake's worst classic period vocal performance. That said, The Sheriff is my pick for second worst track.)

Benny The Bouncer (Another slam dunk.)

Thanks for a fine ELP discussion, gentlemen! ❤️🧡🖤

'The Endless Enigma' is second only to 'Tarkus' as ELP's best opening track...

I think the reason that the I/O physical Atmos release is still around is because the album isn’t very good. I’m an enormous Peter Gabriel fan and I just cannot connect to that album at all. I thought UP was pretty good, wasn’t great, but it had some good songs on it, but this album  I can barely even get through it and I’ve collected his stuff all my life I have singles. I have all sorts of things, but I never bought a physical copy of it and this new album. The song sounds similar to those on.I/O and while I like a few more than the songs on that album, I don’t think I would buy this one either.

I dont think you can count Karn Evil 9 as one song needs to be seperated as first impression  part 1 , first impression part 2 , second impression,  n third impression

Hello, i am not a massive ELP fan but if you do this then Tarkus has to be also in here....? On Rate your music it's seen as their best.

I like Benny the Bouncer. It's a much needed humorous palette cleanser before the darkness of Karn Evil 9. I agree with Ken, my choice for worse on Brain Salad Surgery would be Jerusalem. Yes, it is the weird production on it. It only works at the end. Karn Evil 9 is the best. ELP s/t for me would be best Take a Pebble & worse Tank. Trilogy would be best From the Beginning, worse Abaddon's Bolero.

Can't we just enjoy these masterpiece albums for what they are? And to not include Tarkus??

No bad tracks on any ELP album

This is a great In the Prog Seat tonight about Emerson, Lake and Palmer's
Best and Worst albums.🎸🎹🥁
